Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly planning a €100 million summer swoop for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez as their first choice, Cristiano Ronaldo, is "closing in" on a contract extension with the Bernabéu giants.

Caught Offside reported that Les Parisiens have turned their focus on the 24-year-old Colombia international as their new top transfer target after learning that the three-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo had already agreed on a renewal with Los Blancos this summer.

What was surprising, though, according to the report, is that Rodriguez's value had actually gone up to €100 million from the €80 million Real paid for the Colombian when they acquired him from Monaco in the summer of 2014 given his current struggles in La Liga.

Rodriguez has not made significant impact for the teams of Rafa Benitez and Zinedine Zidane in Madrid as he had struggled to find first team playing time with Los Vikingos already oozing with scorers, namely Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema, and also midfield playmakers such as Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Jese, Isco, and Casemiro.

Speculations abound that the 5-foot-11 winger will choose to exit the Bernabéu in the summer with PSG and English Premier League side Manchester United ready to fight it out for the Cúcuta, Colombia native.

Meanwhile, current Real manager Zidane recently explained his judgment to keep Rodriguez on the bench for the most part of the season, saying that it is the same sentiment that all players who lacking playing time are having.

"I don't see any problems with James - he is an important player," the 43-year-old head coach said last month, via 90 Min. "James is important for us. He played well and scored a goal against Eibar and Getafe. He obviously wants to play more, but that's the same for every player who doesn't play all the time."

"Of course, we have 24 players and I can only pick 11. Sometimes it looks like I always have to make three changes in a game, but I will only do so if I think it is necessary. I am the coach and I have to make decisions," he added.
