'House of Cards' actress Robin Wright has admitted to demanding for equal pay after finding out that co-star Kevin Spacey received significantly more for his work on the series.

According to CNN Money, Wright threatened to go public with her case demanding equal pay for her work on the political drama web series. During an interview with Rockefeller Foundation president Judith Rodin at an event hosted in New York City, the actress revealed that she was seeking an equal fee to that of co-star Kevin Spacey.

"I was like, 'I want to be paid the same as Kevin,'... I was looking at the statistics and Claire Underwood's character was more popular than [Frank's] for a period of time. So I capitalized on it. I was like, 'You better pay me or I'm going to go public'" she said.

The 50-year-old actress plays the role of Claire Underwood in the award-winning Netflix series. Claire is introduced into the series as a lobbyist who runs an environmental NGO. She later becomes the Second Lady of the United States then proceeds to be named the First Lady of the United States as well as US Ambassador to the United Nations.

According to the Huffington Post, Spacey reportedly earned $500,000 per episode back in 2014 while Wright raked in $450,000. The actress talked about how her career took a detour to raise two children with her ex-husband Sean Penn.

"If you don't build salary bracket with notoriety and presence, you're not in the game anymore. You become a B-list actor. ... You're not box office material... You don't hold the value you would have held if you had done four movies a year like Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett did during the time I was raising my kids. Now I'm kind of on a comeback at 50 years old," she said.

Wright's powerful portrayal of the character Claire has earned her several accolades including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Television Series Drama as well as a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards.

In addition to working as the series' main actress, she has also been promoted to producer and occasional director.

Wright joins a long list of actresses who have waged war against Hollywood's notorious gender pay gap. Other actresses who have called out against wage inequality in the workplace include Meryl Streep, Viola Davis and Jennifer Lawrence.

Although they are critically-acclaimed and high, the actresses have received significantly less in payment in comparison to their male counterparts.
