Denver Bronco's Wes Welker Denies Drug Use Report

Wes Welker

Wes Welker, wide receiver of the Denver Broncos, denies the drug use report that led to a four -game suspension as announced by his team Tuesday.

The report from the drug-test conducted by the National Football League (NFL) states that Welker has tested positive for using Amphetamines during this year's Kentucky Derby. Amphetamine is a banned substance that is under the Performance Enhancing Drug (PED) policy.

According to an email sent to the Denver Post, Welker would never knowingly take any form of PED. The 33 year-old football player added that those who know him through training would be aware of his work ethics and discipline.

"I'm as shocked as everyone at today's news," said Welker. "I want to make one thing abundantly clear: I would never knowingly take a substance to gain a competitive advantage in any way. Anyone who has ever played a down with me, lifted a weight with me, even eaten a meal with me, knows that I focus purely on what I put in my body and on the hard work I put in year-round to perform at the highest levels, year-in and year-out.

Welker insisted that the NFL's drug-testing policy would never apply to him since he never considered using drugs. He further claimed that the only way to success is through hard work and studying.

"I wouldn't have any idea where to get a Molly or what a Molly is. That's a joke. I don't do marijuana, I don't do drugs. I don't do any drugs." said Welker.

He added that the NFL drug-policy procedures were flawed and that he will do everything in his power to correct it.

Welker is set to return to the Bronco's roster on Oct.5 on match against the Arizona Cardinals.

It is Welker's second season with the Denver Broncos. He has a record of catching 73 passes out of 778 yards and 10 yards in 2013.
