Facebook Live now Allows Users to Skip to the Best Part of Videos

Facebook standalone camera app is still on its early stages and could potentially never see a release should it be shelved.

It appears that Facebook is serious about expanding not only its video platform but its Live Video feature also. The social networking giant recently announced that it is rolling out a new feature for live videos that will allow users to skip to certain parts of the streaming.

Facebook claims that the new feature will allow users to skip to the most interesting part of live videos that have been recorded. When a live video is streaming, users are allowed to react to the video or comment. Using this data, Facebook will create a timeline for the video. The timeline will show the exact point on the video when users got mad, excited, or liked the video.

The timeline will be shown as an overlay on the video progress bar. Through this information, users will be able to skip to the part of the video that interest them the most, according to Tech Crunch.

This feature is not entirely a new idea as Soundcloud has had this feature on its platform for quite some time now. On Soundcloud, users are allowed to view comments from other users at specific points during the playback of a certain song.

Some tech analysts have noted that Facebook's new feature can help its live video streaming service become more interesting. On the other hand, some are skeptical that it could obstruct the overall flow and narrative of a video. Some are also having second thoughts about the feature since it could be a haven for trolls to mess with the overall experience of live videos.

The new feature will be integrated into videos that are not streamed in real-time, instead viewed after the live streaming was done. According to Digital Trends, with this new feature, it is clear that Facebook is serious about its intentions of integrating videos into its platform.

Facebook said that the feature is slowly being rolled out to its users. The feature will be exclusively available for live-streamed videos only and not to all videos posted on Facebook.
