While most tech companies are focusing on the video elements of the virtual reality platform, Facebook is expanding its reach to cover the audio side of things. The social networking giant has acquired Two Big Ears, an audio firm that focuses on the virtual reality platform. On top of it all, Facebook is offering Two Big Ears' technology to the public completely for free.

The exact financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed by both Facebook and Two Big Ears.
According to Tech Crunch, the acquisition would help the development of hyper-realistic 3D audio. This will also help to advance Facebook's video platform as well as its virtual reality arm Oculus.
Starting today, Two Big Ears' software suite dubbed Spatial Workstation can be download for free. The software is used in designing spatial audio for 360-degree videos and cinematic virtual reality. The application only runs on the Mac platform and supports OSX version 10.7 or newer.
The Spatial Workstation software suite includes plugins for popular audio workstations. It also has a time-synchronized 360 video player, and other utilities that can be used in designing and publishing spatial audio in different type of formats.
Facebook announced that it is working with Two Big Ears to make Spatial Workstation available on the Windows platform.
In a statement acquired by PC Mag, Facebook said, "We're excited to be able to continue developing great tools for a larger number of people across the world. With more resources and scale, we look forward to accelerating development of many features, including support for Windows and more VR devices."
Two Big Ears claims that existing Spatial Workstation Pro subscribers are still entitled to receive support for the next 12 months as part of their agreement with the company. The company said that all Spatial Workstation Pro customers would receive their login details that would enable them to access the official support channel. Two Big Ears added that customers who have not received their login information should contact the company.
