Depp, 52, who has a net worth of $400 million, which includes a private island in The Bahamas, filed a motion in court on Wednesday to block his estranged wife's request for financial support.
The couple did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement before tying the knot on Depp's private island in February 2015. The pair first met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2009 and started dating shortly after wrapping up the film.
This will be Depp's second divorce. The actor was previously married to Lori Anne Allison for two years before they split up in 1985.
The couple grabbed a lot of media attention after being prosecuted for illegally smuggling dogs into Australia. Heard faced a criminal charge of illegal importation of animals after she snuck her dogs Pistol and Boo into the country while Depp was filming for the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie last year.
The couple made their last public outing together in Gold Coast, Australia for a court hearing to face the charges. Heard pleaded guilty to one count of providing a false statement on her immigration card to illegally bring the couple's pet dogs into the country, as previously reported.
In exchange, she avoided jail time and was let off with a $1,000 fine a one-month good behavior bond. As part of their plea deal, Heard and Depp also had to issue a videotaped apology to Australian authorities.
