Guangzhou is currently on top of the league table after winning nine straight games, six points above second-placed team Jiangsu Suning FC. The team lost their season opener in March to Chongqing Lifan, 0-1, but they had not lost ever since then, regaining their championship form.
The Southern China Tigers are coming off another dominating victory, a 3-0 blowout over bottom two squad Liaoning Whowin FC at the Shenyang Olympic Sports Center Stadium last Saturday, as reported by Xinhuanet.
Team captain Zheng Zhi opened the scoring at the 18th minute of the match with a goal off an assist by the team's resident striker Gao Lin. From there Zheng then assisted to Brazilian import Alan Carvalho at the 36th to double Evergrande's lead at the break.
Guangzhou then opened the second half with a strike from Brazilian midfielder Ricardo Goulart, with the assist this time coming from Alan at the 46th minute to complete the team's three-goal haul.
Meanwhile, Shanghai SIPG nipped another lowly club, Hangzhou Greentown FC, at the Shanghai Stadium last Saturday to bounce back from their previous upset loss to Beijing Guoan, via Soccerway.
Ivorian striker Jean Evrard Kouassi provided the winning goal of the contest for head coach Sven-Göran Eriksson's side at the 55th minute as the Red Eagles notched their sixth win of the season, settling them at the third spot of the current league table.
This match between Guangzhou and Shanghai features two of the best coaches in the league with World Cup-winning manager Luiz Felipe Scolari on one side and former Serie A Coach of the Year Eriksson.
The predicted result is a tough 1-0 win for Guangzhou Evergrande.
