Samsung has introduced the newest Galaxy Tab Iris that will feature an iris scanner for Aadhar authentication. This will be helpful for Indian citizens in finance and government services, according to The Verge.

The technology will be managed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDIA). It will be especially useful in the banking and health insurance industry. The feature can function without language and literacy restrictions to simplify authentication and electronic transactions.
The tablet has a 7-inch WSVGA 1024 x 600 display, Android 5.0, 1.2Ghz quad-core processor, 3,600mAh battery life, 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. It has a 5 MP camera and iris scanner integrated hardware on its back, similar to the 2014 Samsung Galaxy Tab Lite 3. The absence of 4G support on the Galaxy Tab Iris is compensated for by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1, as per GSMArena.
Samsung India Electronics Vice President Sukesh Jain said that "This is another example of Samsung's pursuit for meaningful innovations," according to Samsung Newsroom.
"We see great potential for the iris-technology solution to be used as a means of directly facilitating greater inclusion in the Digital India programme," Jain added.
The biometric authentication along with the 'Aadhar' plan is an important function of the device since it can be integrated to facilitate financial services.
"The Galaxy Tab Iris addresses consumer pain points across platforms such as banking, finance, education and various citizen services by bringing enhanced usability, versatility and reliability all through one device," the statement continued.
Samsung has not released any information regarding its launch date. However, the tablet is expected to cost about INR 13,499 ($200).
