One of the many concerns in picking up Windows 10-powered PCs or laptops is dealing with expensive price tags. Recently, Acer is introducing a new back-to-school promo that will most likely appeal to consumers who are on a tight budget. Called the Switch hybrid devices, Acer's new line of laptops can also double as a tablet.

First is the Switch One 10 which only costs $199. The device sports a touchscreen display and is one of the few sub-$200 devices that offers the laptop-slash-tablet functionality.

An upgraded version of the device is called the Switch V 10. This model costs $249 and has additional features like a fingerprint reader, a screen protected by Gorilla Glass, 802.11ac Wi-Fi capability, and USB Type-C support, according to Microsoft's official blog.

Hybrid devices, also known as 2-in-1, are 10-inch tablets that can be connected to a keyboard dock - essentially turning it into a laptop. The most successful brand in this market so far is the Chromebook from Google.

However, compared to Google Chromebooks, the new Acer Switch devices are relatively inexpensive. Additionally, Acer also sells Chromebooks starting at the $180 price point.

Most mobile computing devices like laptops usually run on Intel's Cherry Trail Atom processors. However, Intel is already phasing out its Cherry Trail chips for the newer Apollo Lake chips which are expected to be available this year.

The exact specs of Acer's new line of hybrids are still not available. However, based on the current trend in the market, hybrid devices usually sport a 64GB flash storage and 4GB of internal memory.

According to PC World, the new Acer Switch hybrids will be released in the United States and Europe in July. The devices will be released in China in September.

Along with the new Switch hybrids, Acer also announced a new laptop dubbed TravelMate P249, which sports a 14-inch screen. An upgraded version, dubbed the P259, has a bigger 15.6-inch display. Both laptops can be configured to run with Intel Skylake processors, GeForce 940M GPUs, and up to 32GB of DDR4 memory.
