(Photo : gettyimages.com) LeBron James and the Cavaliers have made history by making it to the NBA league championships for the second-straight season.

LeBron James made history as the Cleveland Cavaliers successfully defended their Eastern Conference crown and advanced to the league's championships round after crushing the Toronto Raptors on Friday night.

The Cavaliers put an end to their best-of-seven series with the Raptors with a dominating 113-87 Game 6 victory to secure the team's second-straight trip to the NBA Finals. It was the Wine and Gold first triumph over the Canadian-based basketball club at the Air Canada Centre this season.

The Cavs victory means another chance to end Cleveland's 52-year championship drought, the longest by any city with at least three professional teams. No Cleveland club has won it all since the Browns crushed Baltimore 27-0 to win the NFL championship in 1964, according to the league's official website.

"This city has been craving a championship," Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue said. "We have the right team and we have the right talent."

The Cavaliers earned the team's third ticket to the NBA Finals in franchise history. The Ohio-based basketball club lost to the Stephen Curry-led Golden State Warriors in six games last season and got swept by the San Antonio Spurs in 2007.

This is also marked the sixth consecutive finals appearance of the four-time MVP James all throughout his NBA career.

"I know our city deserves it, our fans deserve it," James, who had 33 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists, said. "But that gives us no sense of entitlement. We've still got to go out and get it. We've still got to go out and prove ourselves."

James played in four successive finals with the Miami Heat before deciding to return to Cleveland. He will be the eighth player in NBA history to appear in six consecutive finals and the first who did not play for the Boston Celtics. He has won two championship rings and certainly would be eager to have another one.

The Cavaliers will be facing the winner between the Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder team leads the series 3-2.
