The grand opening of the first Tesla Gigafactory is slated for July 29. The facility is located just outside of Reno, Nevada. The news about the factory's opening surfaced after email invitations sent to Tesla owners, who joined the company's Referral Program, were posted online.

The emails were picked up by several news outlet. According to Clean Technica, part of the email states that "We are excited to announce that the Gigafactory Grand Opening event will take place on the evening of Friday, July 29th at our facility outside Reno, Nevada."

Tesla's Gigafactory will reportedly be responsible for manufacturing battery for the auto maker. Tesla is relying on Panasonic to supply the Gigafactory with production equipment to kick off its battery manufacturing facility.

Tesla's Gigafactory is not yet completed and may take two more months before it will be fully operational. However, Tesla has been busy hosting small events within certain areas of the factory where construction is complete. The construction of the Gigafactory reportedly cost at least $5 billion. By the start of May, Tesla said that 14 percent of the construction was completed.

In March, Tesla and SolarCity hosted Nevada legislators for a discussion regarding the future of solar power in the state. Tesla stated that the upcoming July 29 event will be customer-focused.

Aside from customers who won invitations to the event through the Model S referral program, Tesla is reportedly also sending out invites to VIPs. The auto manufacturer is yet to send out invites to media outlets, and it is still not clear whether they will be invited since Tesla staged the Model 3 announcement in a similar fashion.

According to The Verge, Tesla is yet to host any media outlet at the Gigafactory, except from Motor Trend, which the company took onsite for a closer look at the prototype of the Model 3 car.
