(Photo : YouTube) The creator of Phonebloks Dave Hakkens has criticized Google’s Project Ara.
Phonebloks creator Dave Hakkens is not happy with the recent development of Google's Project Ara. Hakkens said that he is not impressed with Project Ara's latest decision to make the processor, antenna, battery, sensors and screen in a single unit and make add-ons like speakers, camera, and projectors the only modular components.

Phonebloks is a campaign that focuses on the development of modular phones. When Hakkens first started Phonebloks, he envisioned a fully modular smartphone in which all the parts of the device can be replaced.
Hakkens introduced the concept back in September 2013 without the knowledge that another tech company, Motorola, was also working on the same project. The two later collaborated on Google's Project Ara, according to Engadget.
Hakkens said that the idea behind Phoneblok was to create a fully modular smartphone that will reduce e-waste. Hakkens is against Project Ara's idea of creating a smartphone that houses all the important components in a single unit since he believes that users will still end up buying a newer model once it is available.
Hakkens added that Google should try to develop good working relationship with third-party manufacturers to create an ecosystem of readily available modules instead of just doing everything on its own.
In a statement acquired by Phone Arena, Hakkens said, "A system like this makes other companies want to compete instead of collaborate. Everything happens under the umbrella of Google."
Hakkens believes that under this arrangements, all modules will be sold through Google with the third-party manufacturer taking just a small cut from the profits.
Hakkens believes that Google has the resources to develop a fully modular device. Although he is not sure what is keeping the tech giant from fulfilling that vision. On the other hand, Hakkens said that he is happy with one aspect of Project Ara's new model; the blocky design which reminds him of the original design of Phonebloks.
