A defect in windshield wipers triggered a massive recall of Cherokee sports utility vehicles in China, according to the country's top quality watchdog.
In a statement, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said Chrysler will recall 13,676 Cherokee SUVs imported into the Chinese mainland.

The recall involves 13,676 imported Jeep Cherokee SUVs manufactured between January 4, 2013 and July 11, 2014. The recall will start on June 10.
Chrysler vowed to check all affected cars and replace defective parts at no cost to the vehicle owners.
The car manufacturer said the affected vehicles have windshield wipers that may fail to work. The defective windshield wipers pose safety risks.
Owners of the vehicles subjected to recall were urged to contact Chrysler for details of the recall and to schedule the replacement of the defective parts.
It was not the first time that Chrysler ordered recalls of its vehicles this year.
Last March, the American automobile manufacturer headquartered in Michigan, USA, recalled over 60,000 vehicles due to a problem with the anti-lock braking (ABS) system.
The recall involved Chrysler's 2013-2015 Dodge Journey SUVs on the Chinese mainland. The vehicles were manufactured from April 21, 2012 to April 14, 2015, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
The recall was ordered after Chrysler discovered that the ABS problem could cause water to leak into the module, thus disabling the ABS and the electronic stability control system. Such defect increases the risk of a crash.
Chrysler said it will seal the ABS wiring harness and the replace the ABS module. It will also replace the headlamp and dash-wiring harness.
