Wang, who is looking to take home her second Indonesia Open crown, rallied from one game down after losing the first set to the newly crowned European champion. The Chinese badminton star managed to win the next succeeding two set and sealed the victory with 16-21, 21-11, 21-17 in one hour and 18 minutes.
"Marin is an extremely tough opponent, and has caused me a lot of trouble during the match. The significant wind drift from different sides of the court also affected my performance," Wang said after the match.
The 28-year-old native of Shanghai has been competing against two of her teammates for the limited 2016 Summer Olympics women's singles event spots allotted to China. Wang's semifinals victory over Marin could increase her chances of being chosen to represent her country in Rio. Wang was a silver medalist in the 2012 London Olympics.
Saturday's triumph gave the three-time Asian Championships winner a 4-3 career head-to-head matchup edge against Marin. Despite her defeat, the 22-year-old native of Huelva remained optimistic after the match.
"I'm disappointed, despite I tried to play my best in the second and third game. It's not easy, because Wang played better. However, I am satisfied with my performance at Indonesia Open as I am preparing for Olympics," Marin said.
Wang will be facing Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying (current world No. 9), who ousted No. 6 seed Wang Shixian of China in two straight sets 21-9, 21-15, in the final round of the badminton tournament on Sunday.
