The Southern China Tigers were held to a 1-1 draw by an undermanned Shanghai SIPG squad on May 29 during the two teams' round 11 matchup also at their home ground of Tianhe Stadium, which ended the league leaders' nine-game winning run, Shanghai Daily reported.
After both teams were held scoreless in the first 63 minutes, Guangzhou's Brazilian star Ricardo Goulart finally broke the deadlock off an assist from resident striker Gao Lin as the hosts looked to extend their winning streak to 10 games.
However, Ivorian forward Jean Evrard Kouassi, the only foreign player available for the Red Eagles during the match, knotted the count at the 70th from a pass by defender Wang Shenchao. Shanghai then prevented the five-straight champs from scoring for the rest of the way to salvage the draw and share a point in the overall standings.
Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari's squad remained at the top of the league table but are now only five points ahead of second-placed team Hebei China Fortune.
Meanwhile, Shijiazhuang Ever Bright dropped a sorry 0-1 defeat in the hands of bottom two team Changchun Yatai FC during the previous round on the road at the Development Area Stadium in Changchun, via Soccerway.
French midfielder Julien Gorius scored the lone goal of the contest for the hosts at the 38th minute, handing Ever Bright its fifth consecutive winless game.
Head coach Yasen Petrov's boys are currently at the 11th spot of the China top flight table, only a point above the relegation zone.
The predicted result is a 2-0 victory for Guangzhou Evergrande.
