Square Enix has announced that “Final Fantasy XII” will get a HD remake for PlayStation 4 by 2017.

Dubbed “Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age,” the Japanese video game developer will employ the Zodiac Job System that was part of the Japanese release and will make it to the Western version as well. The remaster was announced on Square Enix’s YouTube channel. There is no mention of any other format versions, not even PS Vita.

“Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age” will bring technical enhancements to the game. Its International Edition features a re-imagined battle system, dubbed the Zodiac Job System; a Trial Mode featuring 100 stages of increasingly difficult battles; and a New Game Plus, which allows players who complete the game to restart from the beginning with special items and abilities.

In “The Zodiac Age,” the player directly controls the on-screen character from a third-person perspective to interact with people, objects, and enemies. The player can also control the camera with the right analog stick available on PS4 controllers. This will allow users to have a 360 degree view of the surroundings.

On PS4, the game will be available in Full HD resolution. In 12th edition, the game will return to the fictional universe of “Ivalice.” Ivalice’s map was created by Yasumi Matsuno in 1995. This time developers have improved the quality of graphics to make it more suitable for PS4.

“I am excited for both new and returning fans to enjoy the world of Ivalice! Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age is set to launch on PlayStation 4 next year, but we’ll have more to share before then,” said Hiroaki Kato, producer of Square Enix.

Square Enix has remixed the background music using current generation of sound production. The remastered version will have 7.1 channel surround sound and will include some of the best songs from previous versions of the game.

“Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age” is scheduled for release next year on the PS4, and will be preceded this September by the latest entry in the franchise, “Final Fantasy XV.”
