Republican lawmakers Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have finally expressed clear desire to pursue their party's nomination for the presidential race in 2016.

It doesn't come as a surprise, however, because the two senators have long hinted about their interest in running and have been asked several times about their desire to get their party's nomination.

In an interview with CBS' "Face the Nation", Rubio said the Senate is limiting his ability to pursue policies that will move America forward, policies that are critical for the country's future.

With the current Senate gridlock, Rubio said the White House might be a better place to advocate the for a 21st century reform agenda.

"It's not going to be about the position, it's going to be about where can I best advocate for a 21st century reform agenda that allows us to usher in another American century," Rubio, who is also up for reelection in the Senate, said.

His decision, Rubio added, will depend on how he can best advocate for such reform, although he stressed that as long as the Senate is run by Majority Leader Harry Reid, whom he said allows no votes on anything of substance or importance, he will not be able to achieve the reform that will move America forward.

"The decision I have to make is can I best do that as a senator, or can I best do that as running and hopefully winning a presidency," he said. "And that's a question I'll have more clarity on after this mid-term, because I can promise you this: the one place where I will not be able to do that from is a Senate that is still run by Harry Reid," he said.

For his part, Senator Cruz said his decision to seek his party's nomination for president is influenced by global events and President Barack Obama's foreign policy.

"The American people in 2014 and also November 2016 are going to be looking for leaders who want to work to restore America's leadership in the world," Cruz said in an interview with ABC News.
