Motorola has confirmed that its first generation Moto 360 smartwatch will not be receiving the upcoming Android Wear 2.0 update.

The Moto 360 has joined the LG's G Watch on the list of devices that won't be getting the Android Wear update.

Motorola has yet to officially announce that it is not releasing the Android Wear 2.0 update to the Moto 360. However, it was inadvertently confirmed by the official Motorola Support Twitter account while replying to an enquiry.

Following the revelation, the Motorola Support team added that even the company will still continue to release important patches for the first generation Moto 360 smartwatches. "We will implement essential patches. As new security issues emerge, we will evaluate them and update your device as needed," the team said.

Tech giant Google announced Android Wear 2.0 during the company's annual I/O Developer Conference last month. There are rumors claiming that the upcoming operating system for smartwatches will also bring support for cellular connection to wearable devices, a feature that has been long demanded by users.

Speculations also claim that the new operating system will introduce new health and fitness features, as well as additional messaging and customization functions. A feature similar to the Complications feature of the Apple Watch is also in the works, which will allow Android smartwatches to show data from specific apps.

South Korean tech giant Samsung has also showed a lack of interest in continuing its line of Android Wear-supported devices. Many tech analysts believe that Samsung is dropping its support for Android Wear in order to promote its own smartwatch operating system, which is based on the Tizen OS.

With the latest news from Motorola, it appears that the first generation of Android smartwatches are slowly losing their appeal just two years after their initial release.

Here's a look at some of the features of the Android Wear 2.0 update:
