The Cleveland Cavaliers lived to fight another day and kept their hopes of clinching the elusive championship title alive after beating the Golden State Warriors in Game 5 on Monday.

The Eastern Conference winners extended the series against the defending NBA champions after the Cavs took advantage of Draymond Green's absence. Green was slapped with a one-game suspension for accumulating too many flagrant fouls in the playoffs.

The 26-year-old, who was also banned from being physically present at the Oracle Arena, is averaging 14.75 points, 9.25 boards, and 5.75 dimes and has gathered seven steals and five blocked shots in the four games played in the series.

Green is viewed as the Warriors heart and soul, leading the 73-game winning team in the defensive end of the floor and equally contribution in the offensive area of the team.

Cleveland avoided elimination and thwarted the Warrior's supposed celebration of a back-to-back championship title with a 112-97 Game 5 victory on Monday night. The Cavs handed the Dubs their fourth home game loss of the season and set a new record in the NBA as LeBron James and Kyrie Irving became the first teammates to score 41 points in an NBA Finals game.

"We had a mindset that we wanted to come here and just extend our period and have another opportunity to fight for another day," said James, who was assessed with a technical foul by the league following a Game 4 squabble with Green. "That was our main concern, and we were able to do that."

The 2016 NBA Finals is now currently 3-2, with the Oakland-based ball club still leading the best-of-seven series over the Wine and Gold.

However the series will move back to the Quicken Loans Arena on Thursday night for the Game 6 of the championship round.

"I kind of like our position," Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr said. "... I like our position a lot better than theirs."
