Facebook has announced that it is updating its suicide prevention tools to make them available to all its users around the world.
The tools were earlier only available only to a few English language users. The tools were launched last year in the United States, in collaboration with Save.org, Lifeline, and Forefront. The tech company plans to partner with suicide prevention organizations in various countries.

With these tools, people can flag posts from their friends who may be potentially at risk of committing suicide or causing self-harm. Facebook will provide several options in this regards. Users can choose to send a message of support or share the post anonymously. Other resources will also be made available such as contact details of suicide prevention outfits.
Facebook's suicide prevention tools are designed to help people gain awareness of the suicidal tendencies of their friends and give them ways to help them.
According to the New York Times, Vanessa Callison-Burch, a Facebook employee working on the project said, "People really want to help, but often they just don't know what to say, what to do or how to help their friends."
Facebook also reported that the posts may be reviewed by its global community operations team to "reach out to this person with information that might be helpful to them."
However, the social media site will need to balance its activism with growing concern about its users' privacy. Facebook was forced to apologize in October 2014 after it tried to carry out some psychological experiments on its users with its news feed feature.
