Sheriff Demings also mentioned that the body of the boy was intact with only a few puncture wounds and has been turned over to the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. He added that the child was likely drowned by the alligator.
The sheriff also said that the child was found in 6 feet of murky water, about 10-15 yards from where the child was attacked.
Authorities and a priest delivered the tragic news to the boy's Catholic parents, identified as Matt and Melissa Graves of Elkhorn, Nebraska. The father, Matt, who is a chief data officer and leader at Omaha Infogroup, also suffered minor scratches on his hand when he jumped into the water, trying to save his son.
Demings mentioned that the family was distraught but somewhat relieved to find their son's body and do highly appreciated all prayers.
Nick Wiley, executive director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, mentioned to the press that the alligator that attacked the child may have already been caught, but no confirmation was announced since they have to get a certain match from the five alligators taken. He also said that they will make sure to remove the involved alligator from the lake.
