FIBA World Cup: A USA-Spain Gold-Medal Showdown Very Likely

The 2014 FIBA World Cup is heading into the quarterfinals on Tuesday where only two teams, USA and Spain, remain undefeated with a 6-0 record so far in the tournament. Many basketball fans are already expecting a USA-Spain showdown for the gold medal.
Team USA will be facing off against Slovenia in the quarterfinals. Considering they already dominated Slovenia by 30 points in an exhibition game before the tournament, USA should be able to breeze through for a win to move on to the semi-finals.

Assuming USA defeat Slovenia, they'll be facing either Lithuania or Turkey in the semi-finals.
Lithuania has two NBA players Jones Valanciunas and Donatas Motiejunas, as well as a number of top players from Europe, but do not possess the talent on paper to knock off the heavy favorite Team USA.
Turkey actually gave USA the most trouble early on in the tournament as they were only down by six points heading into the fourth quarter, but USA still managed to pull away with a win by 21 points.
It's safe to assume Team USA should have no problems reaching the FIBA World Cup Finals.
On the other hand, Spain will be facing France in the quarterfinals. Spain already defeated the Tony Parker-less French team by 24 points in the early round of the tournament, so fans should expect a similar outcome on Wednesday.
Assuming Spain is able to knock out France, they'll be moving on to the semi-finals where they take on either Brazil or Serbia.
Brazil would be the clear-cut favorites in the game vs. Serbia, as they're stacked with NBA talent including Leandro Barbosa, Tiago Splitter, Anderson Varejao and Nene.
Spain however possesses the most experienced and best defensive frontcourt in the whole FIBA tournament with Spaniard brothers Marc and Pau Gasol, and Oklahoma City's Serge Ibaka. A Spain-Brazil semi-finals matchup could be the most interesting game of the tournament so far.
Spain has a very good chance to knock off the talented Brazil. Bearing a miracle upset somewhere between now and the Finals, it's not out of the realm of possibility to assume basketball fans will be able to witness the highly anticipated Spain-USA gold-medal game Sep 14.
