Last season's China League One champions Yanbian Funde FC held five straight defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC to a 1-1 draw during their round 14 match in the 2016 Chinese Super League at their home field of Yanji Nationwide Fitness Centre Stadium last Saturday.

Guangzhou started the game strong, controlling the ball at every possession, but Gambian forward Bubacarr Trawally was the one who netted the opening goal for the hosts. He deflected a cross from South Korean striker Ha Tae-goon past the gloves of goalkeeper Zeng Cheng and into the net at the 18th minute to "take an unexpected lead against the champs," according to CCTV.

World Cup-winning head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's side immediately tried to find the equalizer, but Yanbian manager Park Tae-ha's squad were able to fend off all attempts until the halftime whistle sounded.

The Southern China Tigers continued to dominate much of the ball possessions after the restart, but they still could not find the back of goalkeeper Chi Wenyi's net.

Yanbian was only able to prevent the equalizer until the 88th minute, when Evergrande left winger Yu Hanchao knotted the count with a setup from Brazilian import Ricardo Goulart following a late attack, as per Soccerway.

It was the third drawn match of the season for the Southern China Tigers as they failed to follow up on their 2-0 win over Tianjin Teda in the previous round.

Scolari and his boys are hoping to build another winning run in the middle of the season, but their attempt was quickly halted with lowly club Yanbian forcing them into a stalemate.

Guangzhou previously had a nine-game winning streak after opening their season with a loss to climb to the top spot of the league table. After that, they settled for two consecutive drawn games versus Shanghai SIPG and Shijiazhuang Ever Bright before their victory over the Tianjin Tigers.

Despite the setback, Evergrande remains at the top of the overall standings, but their lead was cut to only three points at the moment as second-running squad Hebei China Fortune won their own round 14 affair against Tianjin, 1-0.

Meanwhile, the draw snapped Yanbian's two-game losing slide as they continue to settle at the 12th spot of the 16-team China top flight table.
