NBA Rumors: Bulls Have Roster Spot Reserved For Ray Allen

The Chicago Bulls are reportedly the latest team to make a run for veteran shooting guard Ray Allen, who hasn't decided yet whether to retire or continue his career for another shot at another NBA championship.
Veteran Bulls beat writer Sam Smith reported that the Bulls are definitely one of the dozen teams mentioned interested to sign the 40-year-old Allen.

Aside from the Cleveland Cavaliers, reigning NBA champion San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards are keen to have arguably the best shooter of all-time for next season's campaign.
However, Sam believed the Bulls should be considered the dark horse in the race for Allen because of his affiliation to head coach Tom Thibodeau, who worked with the shooter during their time with the Boston Celtics.
"Subsequently, there have been reports of the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs expressing interest. The Bulls are believed to be among almost a dozen teams to have contacted Allen and his representatives."
"In fact, it would be a surprise if just about every team other that the non competitive 76ers have not contacted Allen, a savvy veteran who can make three pointers and likely will play for a veterans' minimum," Smith stated.
Allen, who averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in limited minutes this season, appears to be a perfect fit for the Bulls, who are still looking for a scoring punch at the off-guard position behind defensive ace Jimmy Butler.
The Bulls are still one player away to complete their 15-man roster. There are speculations the spot is being reserved for Allen in case he decided to join the Bulls either before or during the season.
"Allen was at his best defensively in the help system run in Boston by Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, who has remained an Allen fan and advocate, often urging the Bulls in past seasons to pursue Allen," Smith stressed.
"The Bulls also have kept their roster at 12, one under the league minimum, to have flexibility coming into training camp. A space being held for Allen?"
