Badminton News: India’s Saina Nehwal is the 3rd-Highest Earning Female Badminton Player in the First Half of 2016

The 2016 XiamenAir Australian Badminton Open World Superseries women's singles is the only tournament that Saina Nehwal has won this season, and yet the Indian badminton superstar has been ranked as the third-highest paid female shuttler in the first half of the current year.

According to BadmintonPlanet, Saina, who is now the ruling world No. 6 in the BWF's latest world rankings, became $77,275.00 richer after receiving $7,975.00 when she was able to reach the semifinal round of the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open last April. The 2012 Summer Olympics bronze medalist for the women's singles event also cashed $56,250.00 after claiming her first title of the season at the Australian Open this month.

Additionally, Newhal took home a $4,350.00 prize money from her semifinal finish at the Yonex Sunrise India Open. Saina also made some money from other tournaments such as the All England and the BCA Indonesia Open.

The 2016 Rio Olympic Games-bound badminton player has pocketed a career total prize money of $624,862.50.

The current world No.9 Tai Tzu Ying of the Chinese Taipei topped the list having earned total prize money of $102,675.00 that includes the $67,500.00 that she received upon claiming the Indonesia Open crown in Jakarta. The 21-year-old, who upset the highly favorite to win the title Wang Yihan, has a total career earning of $345, 230.00.

After claiming three successive Superseries events such as India Open, Malaysia Open and Singapore Open, badminton star Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand was ranked second with $97,800. The former world No. 1 has already earned a total of $432,180.00 in her professional badminton career.

Other top-ten earners in women's singles are: Wang Yihan of China with $57,575; Nozomi Okuhara of Japan with $ 49,800; China's Wang Shixian with $43,550; Carolina Marin of Spain with $26,425; Li Xuerui of China with $19,775;  Japan's Akane Yamaguchi with $15,700) and Sung Ji Hyun  of South Korea with $13,150.
