A Heroic Deed of a Firefighter that Saved a Suicidal Woman

Last Monday, August 19, 2013, a woman in Tongren City, Southwest China's Guizhou Province was believed to be attempting suicide by jumping from the seventh floor of a building.

Reports said that the woman, purposely unnamed and unidentified, was laughing and shouting from time to time. She was standing outside the window of the building and looks as if preparing to jump. On the other scene, while her relatives were trying to persuade and talk her out of it, the local firefighter brigade was preparing an inflated cushion in the third floor in case the woman jumps.

Luckily, through a heroic deed of a firefighter who was wearing a rope harness, she was grabbed and after a short brawl, the fire fighter was able to throw himself onto a ventilation unit while carrying the woman in his arms before the two were securely pulled in an open window.

It was also affirmed that the woman's wrist was cut as blood was seen through the window pane.

After the incident, the woman who seemed to be mentally disturbed was brought to the hospital for treatment and further examinations.

According to the official reports, more than 200,000 suicidal incidents are noted each year in China and that accounts for 3.6 percent of annual deaths in China.

Suicide, the 10th leading cause of deaths worldwide, is often due to mental disorders like alcoholism, depression, drug abuse and schizophrenia. 

Giving this statistics, people should be well informed and aware of the signs and clues presented by individuals who are most likely to commit suicide.

The incident in Tongren City, Southwest China shouldn't be taken lightly.

Relatives of the woman who attempted suicide should consider bringing the patient to a specialist where she can be analyzed and evaluated to know more about her condition, help her get through her problems, thus, preventing the suicide attempt from taking place again.
