Chinese tech giant TCL is planning to launch a smartphone featuring a unique eye-biometric sensor that can be used for security and verification purposes. Reports claim using eye biometrics, users can unlock the TCL smartphone by a simple blink of an eye.
The TCL smartphone is a joint venture of the company and Alcatel, one of its many subsidiaries. The phone will debut in India within the first week of July. Although the concept sparked some interesting speculations in the tech community, both TCL and Alcatel have been quiet about the official hardware specs of the smartphone. The companies added that the specs will be unveiled at the scheduled launch event.

The TCL smartphone is believed to sport a curved design and a Quad-Core processor, clocked at 1.1GHz. The upcoming smartphone is not the first device released by Alcatel and TCL in India.
In fact, the company is one of the most prolific smartphone manufacturers - not only in India but in the international market as well. TCL was ranked 10th on a list consisting of 12 companies that have shipped a large number of devices globally within the first quarter of the year.
The Iris Scanner uses a high-tech infrared camera to verify the nerve pattern of the user's eyes. These type of biometric authentication tools also use foolproof systems and advanced camera technology in order to accurate identify different eye patterns.
Many security experts agree that eye biometrics is relatively hard to crack or fool, compared to fingerprint scanners, which can be exploited by simply using thumbprints.
Aside from smartphones, TCL Corporation is also known to manufacture and sell different electronic products, such as air conditioners, television sets, refrigerators, and washing machines. The company was founded in 1981 and its headquarters is located in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China.
