CBA News: Jilin Northeastern Tigers Signs Iranian Point Guard Mahdi Kamrani

(Photo : gettyimages.com) Mahdi Kamrani has joined the CBA's Jilin Northeastern Tigers.

Chinese Basketball Association Northern Division team Jilin Northeastern Tigers has acquired the services of the veteran Iranian point guard Mahdi Kamrani for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

Kamrani is no stranger to the Chinese league, the 34-year-old native of Rey, Iran played for Jiangsu Tongxi Monkey Kings in the 2014-15 season. During his stint with the Changzhou, Jiangsu-based ball squad, Kamrani averaged 16.4 points, 5.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 steals in 37.1 minutes of playing time in a total of 35 games.

The 5-foot-11-inches tall Iranian also played for the Beikong Fly Dragons last season. He registered impressive statistical averages of 19.3 points, 6.5 dimes, 4.6 boards and 2.8 steals in 39.4 minutes of action inside the hard court in a total of 34 games.  Although his performances were stellar, Beikong only won 13 games in 38 matches played throughout the season.

Kamrani is also a veteran of international tournaments. He was part of the 2007, 2009 and 2013 Iranian squad that won the FIBA Asia Championship titles.

He also took part in the 2014 Asian Games that in Incheon, South Korea where the Iranian team won the silver medal after losing to the host country in the championship round. In 2015, Kamrani also played for Iran at the FIBA Asia Championship in Hunan, China. Iran settled for the bronze medal, with the Philippines winning the silver and the host country claiming the gold medal.

Jilin finished last season in 17th place with a record of 10 victories and 28 defeats.
