China's Communist Youth League has released an informative rap video entitled This Is China to inform foreigners about "the real China." The move is meant to counter the image of China that has been "fabricated by media for such a long time."

The song, which was written by Li Yijie (aka Pissy), is aimed at portraying China differently. "We know the good and bad in China. It is just that some problems cannot be solved immediately. I want to change Westerners' stereotypes about us," Wang Zixin (aka Chuckie), a member of Chengdu Revolution and the song's producer, told TIME.

The rap talked about China. For instance, when tackling the issue of accidents, the four-minute rap song by Li and another band member Luo Jinhui (aka Roy) said: "We made progress, and we're trying to prevent these from happening." They also talked about gun control saying, "We have tight gun control laws, and we don't fear gun slaughtering."

"When we formed the group in last October, what we hoped was to use an art form popular with young people to guide them to live a healthy life," Wang told MailOnline.

On its official Weibo account, the group wrote, "Our friends from the West, if you still use foreign media such as CNN, AP, and Reuters to get to know China, then the China you know surely isn't the real China."

The song, however, is not necessarily pro-China. Wang admitted that one-third of its song is positive while the remaining two-thirds are negative. "We also criticized some of China's current situation, such as the pollution and the poisonous milk powder," he explained.

He made it clear that unlike what "Western media" portrays, the band was not hired the by the government to write the song and is not even a member of the Communist party.

The music video was released on Weibo by the Communist Youth League three days before the Communist Party marked its 95th anniversary on July 1. It has been viewed more than 77,000 times on YouTube.
