U.S. premium brands Ford, General Motors and their joint venture partners saw an increase in their sales in June 2016 as well as a strong first half of the year in China.
GM and its partners sold 273,563 units in June 2016, up by 11.2 percent compared to the same period in 2015. Furthermore, it sold a total of 1.8 million vehicles in the first half of the year, up by 5.3 percent from a year earlier.

"Sales of Cadillac and Buick remained strong throughout 2016," Matt Tsien, GM China's President, said. "We're also seeing very high demand for our Baojun entry-level passenger car brand."
Last month, sales of Buick reached up to 86,000 units, up by 10 percent, thanks to its Excelle GT Sedan, which sold over 26,000 vehicles.
Cadillac sales also surged in June to as high as 34 percent to 9,552 vehicles. However, Chevrolet failed to share the momentum with sales plunging to as low as 25 percent with only 35,648 units.
Baojun sales increased more than two times to 43, 249 vehicles. At the same time, Wuling, another GM partner, posted sales of more than 99,000, up by 8.1 percent from June 2015.
Meanwhile, Ford together and its partners saw a 2.5 percent increase last month and a six percent increase to 577,097 vehicles in the first half of the year.
"Even as the pace of growth slows and the market matures, customers continue to respond well to our products, particularly or world-class SUV lineup," Dave Schoch, Ford group vice president and president of Asia Pacific, said.
The increase in Ford's sales is partly due to the high demand for its SUVs including Ford Ecosport, Kuga, Edge, Everest, and Explorer.
Furthermore, sales of Ford's joint ventures also increased in June. Changan Ford Automobile reported a four percent increase in June and a 10 percent growth for the first half of this year compared with a year earlier.
Jiangling Motors Corp., on the other hand, experienced a five percent increase in June, but sales plunged to seven percent in the first half of the tear as demand for commercial vehicles weakened.
In addition, Lincoln saw strong sales in China nearly tripling in the first half of this year to 12,450.
