Basketball News: China Suffers Another Loss to Nigeria in the 2016 FIBA Stankovic Cup in Beijing

The Chinese men's national basketball team sit in the bottom of the four-nation FIBA Stankovic Continental Championship Cup after suffering their second loss to Nigeria in a 74-64 defeat in Beijing, China on Saturday.

According to Xinhua, the 2015 FIBA Asian Championship Kings was led by the four-time CBA Domestic MVP Yi Jianlian with 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists while Guo Ailun and Dingyan Yuhang contributed with 11 points each for China.

The Olympic-bound Asian basketball powerhouse opened the opening period with a strong start pounding the Nigerians with a 12-5 run before closing the first quarter with a four-point lead 18-14. However, China encountered an offensive drought in the second period after establishing a seven-point lead in the early minutes of quarter number two.

With China's poor shooting, the reigning basketball champions of Africa managed to overtake the lead and staged a 22-15 second quarter outburst. Nigeria capped the first half of the match with a slim three-point advantage 36-33.

According to NowGoal, in the third period, China fired up with an 18-11 run and took the lead back 51-47 entering the final quarter of the match. However, the visiting team was able to regroup and fought back with an impressive 27-13 charge to wrap up the match and replicate their 79-71 triumph during the tournament's opener.

The Nigerians won the battle for the rebounds as they pulled down a team combined 41 boards compared to the 33 rebounds for China. Former Guangdong Southern Tigers foreign basketball reinforcement Ike Diogu finished the game with a double-double production of 17 points and 11 boards for the Nigerian team.

China wrapped up the annual international basketball tourney for the men's national teams with a 1-3 win-loss record. The Chinese national team won Argentina (60-57) but lost to France (63-48) and twice to Nigeria.
