While the economic aspects of the Tencent-Supercell agreement are also lucrative, what caught the attention of many analysts is the lasting effect of the deal on China's cultural export. China currently has the biggest video game industry in the world, a status that was never reached by other fields like TV, films, and books.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Tencent has already started releasing Supercell's massive hit Clash Royale in China.

Some of the most popular video game titles in China are still imported titles which publishers like Tencent have tailored to fit local gamers. In light of this heavy reliance on imported contents, some video game developers have started to incorporate tradition Chinese themes and contents into games such as Journey to the West.

Moreover, video game developers have avoided the sharp eye of censors, a fact that cannot be applied to contents released on films and television.

According to Bloomberg, a majority of Chinese game developers have focused mainly on the massive domestic market and have largely ignored the international market. However, with Tencent's acquisition of Supercell, whose user base spans almost all continents, many analysts said that this could be a good starting point for Chinese developers to start creating contents that will appeal to the international crowd.
