In a statement acquired by Business Wire, Gartner principal analyst Mikako Kitagawa said, "One of the ongoing problems in the PC market has been the price hike in selected regions due to the weakening local currency against the US dollar. The price issue has impacted the EMEA and Latin America regions for the past year."

A separate study conducted by IDC found that Chinese PC maker Lenovo still leads the pack in terms of shipment. However, its closest competitor, HP, is gaining momentum as well.

Despite Lenovo's lead, the company reported that its shipment declined by 2.3 percent to 13.2 million units. On the other hand, HP reported that its shipment increased by 5.1 percent to 12.96 million units.

Dell is at the third spot with a 15.2 percent market share followed by Asus with a 7.3 percent market share. Apple is at the fifth spot and is reported to have the biggest decline with 8.3 percent down.

Reports indicate that PC vendors are showing improvement in inventory levels, a good sign that could stabilize the market for the rest of the year, according to Investors. Some market analysts have added that the expiration of the free Microsoft Windows 10 upgrade at the end of the month might lead users to buy new computer systems which could improve sales output.
