'Cold War 2' Continues to Dominate IN Second Week on China's Box Office

Chinese films continue to dominate China's box office as Johnnie To's Cold War 2 tops the list during the ongoing break in the release of imported Hollywood films.

Hong Kong's Cold War 2 starring Aaron Kwok, Chow Yun-fat, Tony Leung, and Eddie Pang raked in $15.73 million between Friday and Saturday, down 64 percent from last week. The crime thriller's 10-day earnings now stand at $86 million.

Trailing behind in the second spot is Huayi Brothers' When Larry Met Mary, which earned $15.7 million. Although the romantic comedy managed to beat Cold War 2 on Friday, it failed to maintain momentum and fell to the third place on Sunday. The film was produced by Peter Chan and directed by former actor Wen Zhang.

Coming in third place is Beijing Enlight Media's holdover Big Fish & Begonia with $14.7 million. With $69.1 million from its 10-day total, the film is now the second largest local animation ever next to Monkey King: Hero is Black with $153 million.

Horror thriller Tik Tok landed in the fourth place with $7.9 million, while Never Gone secured the fifth spot with $6.7 million for a 10-day earning of $46.2 million. For A Few Bullets took the sixth place with $6.08 million.

Meanwhile, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is leading the Hollywood pact in the seventh place with $2.33 million, and a total of cumulative score of $57.5 million.

Chinese-Russian animated film Sun Duck had an opening score of $2.26 million. On the other hand, Now You See Me 2 raked in another $870,000 and landed in the ninth place, bumping its 24-day total to $95.4 million.

The tenth spot was claimed by Chinese-US animated film Rock Dog with $570,000 over the weekend, gathering its 10-day total to $5.74 million.

The next Hollywood film to be released in China will be Warner Bros.' The Legend of Tarzan on Tuesday.
