China has dismissed rumored calls for a boycott of products from the Philippines and the U.S. after the international arbitration court ruled against the communist country in a case about disputed territories in the South China Sea.
Several Chinese people have reportedly called out for a boycott of products from the Philippines and the United States. However, Gao Yan, China's vice minister of commerce, told reporters at a news conference on Tuesday that trade ties between Beijing and Manila are "relatively stable" and will not be affected following the arbitration court's ruling.

"China is willing to develop mutually beneficial trade and economic ties with the Philippines in various forms," she said, noting that "though some internet users have called for boycotts on products from the Philippines, in actuality this situation has not occurred."
ABS-CBN News reported that although there is no concrete proof of widespread protest in the mainland, some reports have stated that citizens in third tier cities are hanging banners in front of US fast food chains like KFC asking people not to eat there.
"Other net users have leveled false accusation against public figures and have started to mislead people into blindly boycotting foreign products and brands such as Philippine bananas, iPhones and KFC," China's Global Times revealed on Tuesday.
Chinese state media has asked people to oppose "irrational patriotism."
According to Chinese customs, the bilateral trade between China and the Philippines increased by 5.7 percent to $22.3 billion in the first half of the year. At the same time, Gao said that the two-way trade between China and the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has also prospered over the last 25 years, although it has declined this year due to the lackluster global economy.
