Streaking team Guangzhou R&F FC pulled off a stunning 2-1 upset victory over current 2016 Chinese Super League season league leaders and defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC at their home field of Yuexiushan Stadium on Wednesday.

The match was the second Guangzhou derby in the Chinese first division association football competitions this term with the first one ending in a 2-0 win for the Southern China Tigers as the game was held that time at their home ground of Tianhe Stadium.

Head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's boys actually opened the scoring at the 33rd minute of the contest with a goal from Brazilian attacking midfielder Ricardo Goulart off an assist by local striker Gao Lin, as per Xinhuanet.

It was the first and last goal of the five-straight CSL defending champs, though, as the Blue Lions netted the next two goals courtesy of an assist and a goal by newly-acquired striker and former Maccabi Tel Aviv team captain Eran Zahavi.

Zahavi was superb during the match, assisting on a Jang Hyun-Soo strike at the 56th minute before scoring with his own remarkable individual effort at the 79th to complete the comeback of head coach Dragan Stojković's side, via Soccerway.

With the win, the Blue Lions snapped their cross-city rivals' 17-game undefeated streak in the China top flight this season and have also avenged their loss during their first meeting in April 1st.

The win also extended R&F's current winning run to four games as they climbed to the seventh spot of the league table, only five points behind third-placed team Shanghai SIPG FC, who temporarily holds the third and final AFC Champions League qualifying berth for next season.

With 11 games remaining in the Blue Lions' campaign this season, they still have a chance to reach the top three in the standings and advance in Asia's premier club competitions next term.

Meanwhile, Evergrande remained at the top of the league table despite absorbing their first loss since their opening day defeat in the hands of Chongqing Lifan way back in early March.
