Perennial powerhouse Shanghai SIPG FC bounced back from their previous Shanghai derby loss with a high-scoring 5-3 win over mercurial squad Chongqing Lifan FC at their home ground of Shanghai Stadium on Wednesday.

Shanghai SIPG played without their new China transfer record signing Hulk for the second straight match as the Brazilian winger is still sidelined by the leg injury he suffered during the team's 5-0 thrashing of Henan Jianye on July 10.

It was Hulk's debut game and after scoring the opening goal at the ninth minute, he pulled his left leg muscle at the 21st which led to him being stretched out of the game.

Without their potential leading man, local winger Wu Lei became the star of the game as he unleashed a double with a goal in each half. Supporting him was the team's resident Brazilian striker Elkeson who had two assists.

The first goal was scored with an own goal from Chongqing center back Luo Qin at the 14th minute to give the hosts a one-point advantage early in the match. Wu then doubled the lead 12 minutes later with his first goal of the evening off an assist by attacking midfielder Lu Wenjun, Xinhuanet reported.

However, head coach Sven-Göran Eriksson's boys surrendered three consecutive goals in the second half of the game, at the 47th, 63rd, and 69th minutes respectively, with a strike from Argentine forward Emanuel Gigliotti off a Wang Dong assist and a brace from Wang himself afterward, via Soccerway.

Lu was able to equalize the match at the 71st as Elkeson provided his first assist of the night. Shanghai's own Argentine import, Dario Conca, then gave the hosts the lead six minutes later before Wu scored his second goal of the contest right at the stroke of full time off Elkeson's second assist to seal the win.

It was SIPG's third win in their last four games and also the team's sixth unbeaten performance in their last seven outings, putting them at the third spot of the current league table.

Meanwhile, Chongqing suffered their eighth loss this term as they settle at 12th place in the overall standings.
