Basketball News: Former NBA Player Maciej Lampe to Play for DongGuan Leopards in the CBA

Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) club Dongguan New Century Leopards has reportedly signed former NBA international player Maciej Lampe to play for the team in the upcoming 2016-17 season, Asia-Basket reported.

The 31-year-old native of Lodz, Poland played for the Istanbul-based professional basketball club Besiktas of the Turkish Basketball Super League in the 2015-16 season. Lampe played 25 official games with the Ufuk Sarica-headed team while averaging 12.90 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 24.4 minutes of playing per game.

The 6-foot-11 tall Polish-Swedish power forward-center is a newcomer to the Chinese league but has played in several leagues in different parts of the world. Lampe played in Israel (Maccabi Fox Tel-Aviv), Russia (Unics Kazan, Khimky and Dynamo St.Petersburg), Spain (Laboral Kutxa), and the United States (National Basketball Association).

The veteran international basketball player won the Russian Cup MVP award in 2008 and the Russian PBL MVP honors in 2011. Lampe is also a 2016 TBL All-Star and is a member of the senior Polish national basketball team. He played for the country at the 36th FIBA European Basketball Championship in 2009.

Lampe is the 2003 NBA Draft 30th overall pick selected by the New York Knicks but was later traded to the Phoenix Suns in January 2004. Lampe played 21 official games in his first season with the Suns while averaging 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 10.7 minutes of playing per game.

Lampe got traded to the New Orleans Hornets in January 2005, where he appeared in 21 matches. He averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 boards while playing for 12.4 minutes per game. Lampe also had a short stint with the Houston Rockets; playing four games with the team in the 2005-06 season.

Dongguan finished ninth on the league table last season in the CBA, having a 19-19 win-loss record.
