Oppo is a company that has become increasingly popular in the Chinese market and even though a majority of its products are sold in Asian countries, the smartphone maker has what it takes to give Apple and Samsung a run for their money, according to statistics released by Counterpoint.

As you can see in the graph below, Oppo is now the No. 1 smartphone manufacturer in China as of June 2016. The company was considered as just another blip on the radar in 2014 but over the course of just two years, Oppo has managed to claim top-spot as a single brand with 22.9 percent of smartphones in China being manufactured by the Guangdong-based firm.
Oppo beat the likes of Huawei, Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi to become the leading smartphone brand in China, which is the world's leading smartphone market. In fact, Xiaomi only produced 6.8 percent of phones in China, down significantly from 15.1 percent as compared to the previous year.
The Oppo R9, also known as Oppo F1 Plus, was the highest-selling smartphone in June (5% market share) and the company looks to capitalize on the device's success and increase its August market share with the launch of the Oppo F1s model soon.
Oppo currently has a market share bigger than Apple and Samsung combined. We don't how long Oppo will be able to maintain its lead as the numero uno smartphone maker in China, but it is definitely a company that competitors should keep an eye out for.
