Sony Starts Pre-Orders of PlayStation VR Headsets in Taiwan

Sony has started taking pre-orders for its latest PlayStation (PS) VR headset in Taiwan.
The Japanese tech giant will start selling the PlayStation VR headsets and accessories on Oct. 31 globally. Sony is now taking pre-orders from Taiwanese buyers through its distributors. It will also take pre-orders at upcoming promotional events, according to Focus Taiwan. The pre-orders of the headset in Japan started in May.

Sony will launch a marketing campaign to promote its new product line. It will be held at Taipei’s Syntrend electronics shopping mall from Aug. 5-7, where visitors can sample the products. Similar events will occur in September in the municipalities of Taichung and Kaohsiung.
Starting Aug. 8, Sony's stores in Taipei and Taichung, and the TVGame store in Taipei City Mall, as well as the Gamemall in Kaohsiung, will put up a dedicated area for visitors to check the new products, China Post reported.
The PS VR headset has a price tag of NT$12,980 (US$406.48) and needs to be connected to a PS4 game console for users to play games. It can also be paired with the PS Camera for NT$14,480 ($459). Lastly, PS VR headset can be bundled with PS Move controllers and PS Camera for NT$16,480 ($522).
One of the PS VR's main rivals in Taiwan is the HTC Vive, which costs NT$28,288 ($896). On the other hand, Oculus Rift has not been introduced in the local Taiwanese market. Both Vive and Oculus Rift need to be paired with a compatible PC to be used.
