The 2012 Summer Olympic Games reigning fencing champion Lei Sheng of China has said that he wants his last trip to the prestigious quadrennial sporting event to have a happy ending.
According to Xinhua, the 32-year-old Lei surprisingly scooped the first foil gold medal at the London Games four years ago, making him the main target for other top competitors in the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"I had overcome the jet lag and the climate problem after training in Sao Paulo. I am in good shape right now, and I can't wait to face the challenge in Rio," the left-handed 6-foot-4-inches tall fencer said. "I am working hard on physical training and trying to move faster in attack modes. I did some special training to prepare for the tournament when I face up shorter opponents."
According to Sina, the Chinese fencing squad had a one-week training camp in Sao Paulo prior to the team's arrival in the host city on Monday afternoon. The Chinese men's team head coach Ye Chong, who won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Games in Greece, said that he especially laid out the afternoon training to figure out how to deal with the jet lag.
"Brazil's afternoon is the early morning in China. So it is the toughest training time for our athletes in Brazil," the 46-year-old fencing mentor said.
Lei will be representing his country in the Olympics for the third time and believes that it would be his final spin in the highly regarded sports competition.
"Rio is most likely my last time to compete in Olympics. I want to enjoy it and finish it with a good result," Lei said.
The men's foil individual competition begins on 7 August at Carioca Arena 3.
