Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) club Shanghai Sharks has reportedly hired the services of former NBA player Jimmer Fredette to play for the Yao Ming-owned team in the upcoming 2016-17 season.
According to Asia-Basket, Fredette, 27, most recently played with the Westchester Knicks of the NBA Developmental League. He was averaging an impressive 21.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.4 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game in the 42 official games that he played with the team.

The veteran 6-foot-2 inches tall American point guard also helped the New York Knicks make it to the league's regular season as the second-top team in the Atlantic Division. Fredette, who was named to the East All-Star team for the 2016 NBA D-League All-Star Game, lifted the All-Star Game MVP trophy after an impressive 35 markers, eight dimes, and six boards in 25 minutes of playing time.
In February, Fredette signed a 10-day contract with the Knicks and was able to appear in two official matches scoring an average of 3.5 points in 2.5 minutes on the hard wood. Fredette also had a short spell with the New Orleans Pelicans during the season, playing four matches. It was his second stint with the Pelicans after being part of the team in the 2014-15 season, where he played 50 games averaging 3.6 points per game.
According to ESPN, Fredette has played in 235 games over the past five seasons in the NBA. He was the 2011 NBA Draft 10th overall pick selected by the Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 6.0 points in 13.4 minutes per game. He also formerly played with the Sacramento Kings and the Chicago Bulls.
The CBA's regular season concludes in February, and the league's postseason ends in late March, so the former Brigham Young star will likely have the chance to join an NBA team in the second half of the 2016-17 season.
