Before the 9/11 anniversary, the U.S. Homeland Security is on high alert because of the multiple potential threats from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIL or ISIS.
According to reports, there is no specific terror plot yet, but the authorities said the most serious threat comes from the ISIL militants.

During the meeting with U.S. President Obama and the national security team, the Homeland Security Secretary warned that ISIS “is prepared to kill innocent Americans.” The statement was based on their serious assessment of the terrorist group.
In New York, Police Commissioner William Bratton said in a speech that “ISIL creates a totally new area of threat” for American citizens compared to the impact al-Qaeda had in 2001.
The authorities are more concerned about the social media skills of ISIL because it gives them the ability to attract support from other groups, Bratton added.
Scripps National Desk conducted an interview with terrorism expert Kevin Mellott, CEO of ERASE Enterprise, regarding the ISIL threat and the 9/11 anniversary.
In the exclusive interview, Mellott said it is possible that a September 11 attack will be repeated.
The possible attack on September 11 would not be a surprise because it is an anniversary. Mellott said the whole idea of terrorism hinges on surprise attacks on innocent civilians
According to Mellott, if ISIL strikes the U.S. soon, the militants’ target would be the U.S. military to show what they are capable of.
The militant strike could also be done publicly in places like a shopping mall, a movie theater, or any conspicuous place that could have a massive psychological impact in the U.S., Mellott aded.
He said ISIL is not afraid to carry out threats..
“They have already given us a warning: If you don’t stop attacking, we were going to kill. And they kept their word when they beheaded Sotloff”, he added.
