Chinese Elite Weightlifters Bag 2 More Gold Medals at 2016 Rio Games

China's weightlifting team won two Olympic gold medals on Tuesday.

Shi Zhiyong and Deng Wei won their events.

According to The Japan Times, the 23-year-old Deng won the women's 63-kg category, setting a new world record total of 262 kg. The previous record holder was Lin, who lifted a total of 261 kilograms at the 2014 Asian Games that in Incheon, South Korea.

"Because this is my first Olympic Games, I was quite nervous," Deng said. "But I set my goal to break the world record before coming to Rio, so this is actually within my expectations."

Deng came into the clean and jerk competition with a four-kilo buffer in the snatch. After jerking 138kg in her first attempt, she won the gold medal with a total of 253kg as other opponents finished all their lifts, according to Xinhua.

Deng began her solo in the fifth attempt, putting an ambitious 147kg above her head steadily for a total of 262kg, breaking two world records in jerk and total by one kilo respectively.

Later in the day, Shi Zhiyong continued China's success by conquering the men's 69-kg class. The 22-year-old Shi snatched 162kg and jerked 190kg to secure the gold in his weightlifting bracket.

"This is not just important for me, but for my whole team. I would like to dedicate this medal to my team and coaches who give me confidence, love, courage and support," the native of Lingui, Guangxi said.
