Powerful Explosion in Power Plant in China’s Dangyang City Kills 21 People

A powerful blast at a power plant in Dangyang city in China's central province has left at least 21 people dead and five others injured, Chinese state media reported.
A high-pressure steam pipe blasted at about 3.20 pm on Thursday at a power plant. The plant is reportedly operated by Madian Gangue Power Generation, which was founded in 2002.

Initial investigations indicate that steam pipe exploded during a trail period, Xinhua reported, adding that the investigation is still ongoing.
All the injured people are being treated in a local hospital. Three reportedly suffered serious injuries. The rescue operation at the blast site is still on.
Deadly accidents at industrial plants are a common thing across China, where poor standards for industrial safety has become a major boon of contention over the years. Blasts and accidents across coal mines and factories are reported frequently in China.

Last year August, a powerful chemical blast in the port city of Tianjin left 165 people dead and thousand injured. After the blast, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that the country would learn the lessons paid for with blood, adding that authorities would make diligent effort to improve safety norms across Industrial facilities.
