According to Asia-Basket, former NBA Developmental League player Brandon Costner steered Guizhou with game-high 25 points and nine rebounds to oust the top-seeded club in the Chinese NBL. Chinese forward ZhenHu Zhang finished the game with 23 points while shooting 10 of 12 from the field.
Local players Minghao Li and Pengfei Li chipped in a combined 23 points and nine boards for the victors, who will be facing the winner between Luoyang and Hebei Xianglan. The two clubs are currently tied with two games apiece in their best-of-five quarterfinal series.
Foreign basketball reinforcement James Mays paced Shaanxi with a team-high 23 points along with seven boards and two dimes while Jiguang B and Xinyue Shi chipped in 16 points and 14 points, respectively.
According to NowGoal, Guizhou dominated the first three-quarters of the game. The final four-bound team was able to establish a comfortable 19-point lead 77-58 entering the last and final twelve minutes of the match.
In the fourth quarter, Shaanxi tried to fight back and staged a 25-20 run, but it was not enough to steal the game from Guizhou.
The victory for Guizhou can be considered as one of the biggest stories of the NBL season. The Wolves dominated the entire regular season winning 24 games and only lost twice while Guizhou encountered some obstacles and almost fell short of making the final cut for the postseason.
Guizhou had to replace its foreign reinforcements to be able to strengthen its lineup and fortify its chance of reaching the playoff by signing the American Costner during mid-season.
