Cellar-dwelling side Changchun Yatai FC stunned streaking squad Yanbian Funde FC with a 1-0 upset win on Sunday at their home field of Development Area Stadium to halt the latter's five-game unbeaten run in the 2016 Chinese Super League season.

Changchun has won two of their last three matches after going on a four-game losing slide, but is still stuck at the bottom of the 16-team China top flight table with only eight games left in their current campaign, as per Soccerway.

Head coach Lee Jang-soo's squad currently has 19 points in the overall standings, only a point below fellow bottom two relegation team Shijiazhuang Ever Bright. At the 14th spot is Tianjin Teda FC, who are in a 10-game winless rut, with 24 points.

After a goalless first half, local defender Pei Shuai netted the winning goal of the match at the 58th minute off an assist from Bolivian striker Marcelo Martins Moreno to bounce back from their previous 1-2 loss to Jiangsu Suning, Xinhuanet reported.

Changchun had struggled throughout the current term, opening it with a nine-game winless streak that only ended more than two months after the season had opened. The win was only the team's fifth this year and they hope to finish strongly to avoid demotion to the China League One next season.

Meanwhile, Yanbian Funde, last season's China League One champions, had been on a roll with five consecutive wins prior to this heartbreaking loss to Changchun.

Head coach Park Tae-ha's side has climbed to eighth place in the overall standings from being as low as the 13th spot earlier in the year. With 29 points and eight games left in their season, Yanbian still has a chance to grab an AFC Champions League berth next season if they can build again a significant win streak.

At the moment, they are 11 points behind Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, who hold the third and last ACL spot for the next term.
