Chinese actress Fan Bingbing has announced that she will no longer be a part of the upcoming shark movie "Meg," which stars Hollywood action hero Jason Statham.
Fan, who has featured in Hollywood films like "X-Men: Days of Future Past," had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts, according to a Weibo post from the actress' studio account on Monday (Aug. 22)

Filming for "Meg" was slated to begin in September, but the 35-year-old star's schedule was already occupied with promotional activities for two of her other films, both of which open in theaters on Sept. 30.
Warner Bros. had set a March 2, 2018, release date for the creature feature, which is being made by the studio in conjunction with Chinese company Gravity Pictures, according to China Film Insider.
"We're extremely grateful to 'Meg' for their recognition of Fan Bingbing, but we need to prioritize the above-mentioned films and finish what we've started," the Weibo post reads.
"We've already allocated all of September to 'I Am Not Madame Bovary' and 'L.O.R.D-Legend of Ravaging Dynasties' and are unable to make time to travel overseas to shoot, so we've decided to pull out of Meg."
"Meg" is a film adaptation of Steve Alten's 1997 shark thriller novel, and revolves around a prehistoric 30-meter megalodon shark that emerges from the depths of the ocean to terrorize the coast of modern day China.
Fan's departure from the project is the latest in a series of setbacks that have plagued the film, which has been in the pipeline for years with the likes of Guillermo del Toro, Eli Roth and "Speed" director Jan de Bont all being associated with the film at some point.
Disney was originally supposed to make the film in 1997, but it got stuck in development hell after the studio was unable to kick-off production before the release of the 1999 shark flick "Deep Blue Sea."
Fan last appearance in an English-language film was in "Skiptrace," the Renny-Harlin film starring Jackie Chan and Johnny Knoxville.
