Manchester City's former manager Manuel Pellegrini has been hired to replace Chinese Super League (CSL) side Hebei China Fortune's local manager Li Tie.

Li, who played for the Premier League side Everton Football Club in the years 2002 to 2006, became Hebei's manager in mid-August last year when the club was still in League One, the country's second tier division, and helped Hebei to advance to the CSL. However, the 39-year-old Chinese boss failed to secure better results this season, prompting the team to replace Li.

According to FourFourTwo, the 62-year-old Pellegrini had been out of a job since the end of the 2015-16 season after Pep Guardiola replaced him at the Etihad Stadium this year.

Pelligrini was officially confirmed on Saturday as the new manager of the China Fortune Land Development-owned football club via the team's official Weibo account.

The veteran Chilean boss will be coaching the likes of Gervinho, Gael Kakuta, Stephane Mbia, Ersan Gulum, and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Hebei is currently sitting in the fifth spot of the 16-club Chinese league after 23 matches played with 10 wins, five draws and eight losses. They are 15 points behind table leaders and league's defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao.

With seven games remaining this season, Hebei is five points off an AFC Champions League place. The Chinese side has won just one match of their last five games played.

According to Sport 360, Pellegrini, who was named Premier League Manager of the Month on four occasions, spent three seasons in England. He guided Manchester City to the Premier League title with his first attempt in 2013-14.
