NBA Veteran Jason Thompson to Play in China for the Upcoming CBA 2016-17 Season

Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) club Shandong Golden Stars has reportedly agreed to terms to hire the services of former NBA big man Jason Thompson to play for the team.

According to Asia-Basket, the 30-year-old native of Mount Laurel, New Jersey played for the Toronto Raptors in the 2015-16 NBA season. Thompson, who will be playing for the first time in China's top basketball league, played 19 official games with the Canadian-based NBA team, posting averages of 4.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in 15.4 minutes of playing time.

He was part of the Dwane Casey-headed team's postseason run that saw the Raptors reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in the history of the franchise. Thompson played a minor role off the bench while playing just 5.5 minutes per match in 10 games.

Thompson also played 28 games with the Golden State Warriors during the same season. He registered averages of 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in a limited 6.4 minutes in the hard wood.

He played college basketball for the Rider Broncs from 2004-2008. In his final season with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) varsity team, Thompson averaged 20.4 points, 12.1 boards, 2.7 assists, 2.7 blocked shots and 1.1 steals per outing.  

The 6-foot-11-inch tall power forward-center was named 2008 MAAC Player of the Year and ended his collegiate career as the Broncs' all-time leading rebounder of the team.

Thompson was the 2008 NBA Draft 12th overall pick selected by the Sacramento Kings, where he played for seven seasons appearing for a total of 541 official games. In his rookie season with the Kings, Thompson plays 28.1 minutes and scores an average of 11.1 points per game while shooting 49.7 from the field.
